I recently noticed that the apply on variants field availability has changed for me in my BOM setup. Previously apply on variants would only allow me to select attribute values for which attributes had been set to "Instantly" or "Dynamically" and would exclude any "never" options in regards to variant creation. Now the field allows me to select any attribute regardless of this setting. 

I welcome this change as my products handle massive amounts of products and specifications, however I am unsure of the functionality behind this change and am hesitant to use it. I've become quite familiar with the functionality of the "never" variants and how they are only usable with the MTO route otherwise manual replenishment will not recognize anything other than specific variants of products. I would like to implement the "never" create attributes as selections which would affect my BOM in order to provide more clarity for my shop floor. This is due to the confusion which occurs with the poor formatting of the "custom description" field which appears with the "never" attributes.

I am wondering if anyone is more familiar with this change or could provide some clarity. I will be testing the ramifications of the change on my own but a technical breakdown would be appreciated.
